Heat Index Protocol
During periods of the drum corps season, heat and/or humidity can be a problem. The following guidelines will assist instructional staff in scheduling rehearsals and breaks when heat and humidity become a health risk. These guidelines are based on the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Sports Medicine Handbook and the National Athletic Trainer’s Association’s (NATA) position statement on Exertional Heat Illness./li>
- Daily temperature and humidity values will be noted to determine the heat index (See heat index chart below).
- The Health and Wellness Team will provide recommendations to staff, based on the heat index and wet bulb globe temperature, when available, so appropriate rehearsal scheduling/planning can take place.
