Joining the team of educators for the 2012 System Blue Midwest Drum Major and Leadership Camp for a special guest session is DCI Hall of Fame member Shirley Dorritie. Her presentation on maximizing performance when under pressure is hailed as a truly a life-changing event. Shirley holds an MA in Counseling Psychology with a Certificate in Sport Psychology and has worked with a broad spectrum of individuals who are required to manage their responses to stress in order to perform at their best -- including performers, athletes, educators, choreographers and conductors throughout the U.S., Europe, and Japan.
Ms. Dorritie will be part of a camp led by Conn-Selmer's Director of Education and former Phantom Regiment conductor Jenny Grice, along with 5-year Blue Devil Drum Major Brian Howard. Students will work on leadership skills, conducting and score study techniques and learn ways to assist their band directors in achieving the most efficient and product rehearsal techniques for their program.
The Blue Devil's 2012 System Blue Drum Line Camp will also be happening during this same weekend. Drummers will learn from DCI Solo Snare Champion Andrew Odello, RCC and Blue Devil veteran Stephanie Vasilakis, as well as attend a special clinic presented by Blue Devil percussion director and DCI and WGI Hall of Fame inductee Scott Johnson.
Both the Drum Major/Leadership students and Drum Line attendees will be directly involved in Blue Devil rehearsals during the 3-day event, and will perform at the closing of the DCI Minnesota competition at TCF Stadium on Saturday, July 14.
