The night of the DCI Word Championships Finals in Pasadena last August, Blue Devils demonstrated why they are champions both during and after competition.
Two United States Marines who had recently come home from serving their country in Iraq (and who were just two weeks from returning there) were so impressed with Blue Devils they wanted to meet your corps before leaving the Rose Bowl.
I had the privilege to write an article for DCI.org shortly after Championships week.
Sadly, a few days ago, one of those Marines, Jack Kenner, was killed in California while riding his motorcycle. The supreme irony is that he survived two tours of Iraq and then met his demise while doing something he enjoyed.
Jack’s mom, Terrie Hobson, has been in communication with me regarding Jack’s memorial service and burial. In one e-mail, she wrote how meaningful Blue Devils’ act of generosity was to Jack and his Marine buddy who also attended his first DCI competition in Pasadena.
The following is information from Terrie about Jack’s memorial service and burial. If anyone from the corps is available to attend either on such short notice, I’m sure their presence would be a comfort to Terrie.
