Volunteers are the backbone of the success of drum corps. Without their generous donations of time and hard work many corps would have insufficient resources to survive the summer, and thus deprive many young people the opportunity to participate in the activity. Bill Seeley, who heads the "A" Corps transportation team, says, "We do this because it benefits the kids and it's fun. Sometimes it's more work than we thought, but in the end it's all worth it." Bill's youngest daughter aged out of the Blue Devils in 2007, and he will have to decide whether to continue in his role when the season ends.
Volunteerism is a way of expressing your interest in and support for the drum corps activity. Getting involved with drum corps is both rewarding and contagious. The A Corps Booster Club has been in existence for many years, and quite a few members are still active even though their kids aged out a long time ago. Several members have never had a son or daughter in the corps. They simply help because they love the activity and because their efforts are appreciated so much by the marching members.
