On Saturday night, The Blue Devils earned a score of 98.975 to round out an undefeated season and claim their 21st DCI World Championship Gold Medal at the 2023 Drum Corps International Finals competition at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Blue Devils have won the DCI Founders trophy the last three competitive years in an amazing 3-peat.
In a whirlwind of inspiration, music, and movement, the 2023 Blue Devils imagined the world of Henri Matisse’s final chapter with THE CUT-OUTS—a musical and visual collage celebrating his groundbreaking work through shape, sound, and texture. THE CUT-OUTS mined the tensions that lurk in all the shapes, between finish and process, fine art and decoration, drawing and color.
"This was a tremendous summer for several reasons, and I couldn’t be prouder of the 184 members — our largest group ever — who put in the hard work day in and day out in pursuit of reaching their potential as performers, and as people,” said Pat Seidling, Corps Director of The Blue Devils. "This achievement was realized by their dedication, commitment, passion, and the maturity they displayed working dynamically with our staff to bring THE CUT OUTS to life.”
BD Performing Arts congratulates all the fantastic performers in all the corps and send a special shoutout to the Bluecoats and Carolina Crown for their truly spectacular seasons. The degree of creativity and performance quality on display across the entire Drum Corps activity is thrilling; we couldn’t be more excited for what the future holds!
