David Glyde, 30-year veteran staff member and current musical director of The Blue Devils, has been elected into the DCI Hall of Fame. Throughout his career, Glyde has pushed the boundaries of musical design, introducing and popularizing the use of electronics and fresh musical material in drum corps. His peers have praised his humility, creativity, and professionalism and have lauded his contributions to the activity.
Tom Aungst, one of Glyde's peers, said of him, "Dave's unique style of orchestration and overall layout of the music has been a trendsetter in the Drum Corps activity for years. His ability to write for the brass, the percussion and understand the importance of all the visual elements is astounding. He is an amazing artist, musician, and overall show designer. His commitment to excellence, The Blue Devils, and the drum corps activity is worthy of him being in the Drum Corps Hall of Fame."
Jay Murphy, another colleague of Glyde's, added, "Dave Glyde is a master of musical programming. His unique approach and innovative musical design have been an integral part of the identity and success of The Blue Devils for decades. Dave's work continues to influence and expand the art of musical design for drum corps and marching bands. He is a generous man of great talent and character. Dave Glyde exemplifies the best of our activity and truly deserves inclusion in the DCI Hall of Fame."
David Gibbs, a member of the DCI Hall of Fame, class of 2002, and The Blue Devils Senior Executive Advisor, stated in his nomination letter, "Dave Glyde embodies every aspect of the DCI Hall of Fame's mission of honoring those who have made a significant contribution through their years of hard work, innovation, and outstanding achievement. He is more than deserving of the activity's highest award. It is long overdue, and it is time."
Glyde's work has been integral to The Blue Devils' success, helping them win 14 of their 20 DCI World Championship titles and 7 of their 13 DCI High Percussion titles. His colleagues and peers have declared that it was time for him to be recognized for his immense contributions to the activity, and we are excited that he will be honored for his talent, creativity, and passion for the art of drum corps.
