With preparations for the 2022 drum corps season well underway and a brass callback camp right around the corner, The Blue Devils are proud to introduce Corey Castillo as the newest member of our Drum Major team!
"The essence of The Blue Devils is defined by our members, and Corey most certainly represents all that it means to be a Blue Devil,” said Pat Seidling, Blue Devils Corps Director. “His talent and competencies are obvious from the moment you meet him, but you'll also quickly come to learn that above all, he is a person of great character.”
Corey was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and graduated from Foothill High School in Pleasanton – a program with long-time ties to The Blue Devils. His drum corps experience started at BDB where he played mellophone in 2017, and at the young age of 15 he made his way to the A Corps to march from 2018-2019. Most recently, Corey also served as one of our drum majors at the 2021 BDX Summer Intensive.
Currently, Corey is a student at UCLA where he is pursuing a degree in bassoon performance at the Herb Alpert School of Music and performs in the prestigious UCLA Wind Ensemble and Philharmonia. He adds that he is “extremely excited to see what the new talent and personalities of BD ‘22 can create on and off the field this year.”
“We made a commitment to Corey at an early age because of his talent, and with the hope that he could be a leader for the drum corps for many years to come,” said Jaime Holly, Visual Co-Caption Head and Designer. “Our faith in Corey paid off as he is now set to lead us into the future as our new drum major. We have an amazing opportunity to redefine who The Blue Devils are, and we couldn’t ask for a better leader to shape and guide us going into 2022.
Stay tuned for more exciting news as we begin to kick of our 2022 season and the 65th Anniversary of The Blue Devils. In the meantime, check out tour dates and buy your DCI tickets at dci.org!
