Michael Tran currently lives in Garden Grove, CA. He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Music from Cal Poly Pomona in 2020 studying with GRAMMY®️-award winning pianist Nadia Shpachenko. For Michael, music has been a part of his life since he began playing the piano at the age of four.
His experience as an educator includes working with 21-Time World Champion, the Concord Blue Devils. Notable colleagues he has been given the chance to work directly with include Brian Dinkel (Woodbridge HS 2021-current), Rick Barclay (Blue Stars D&BC 2021-22), Whitney Taylor (Woodbridge HS), and Jimmy Nguyen (La Quinta HS 2021-23).
Outside of educating the marching arts, Michael is also currently a piano accompanist for the Dance & Music classes at Studio D, a community program under Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, CA (2022-current). “Studio D is an intentionally inclusive space for students of all abilities to explore and develop their full creative potential through high quality, joyful arts instruction” (https://www.scfta.org).
Michael played the xylophone and glockenspiel for Pacific Crest (2015), Blue Devils (2017-2019), and RCC (2016-2019). He also played vibraphone at the Blue Devils (2016), and marimba at RCC (2020). Other notable instruments he has played extensively include the Rocar, Zil-Bel, Crotales, and the Waterfall. Some of his notable instructors include Jack Mizutani and Brian Dinkel.
