In the late 1970’s you could often find Peter Loret and his Alaskan Malamute sled dog, Reanna at Mars during practice. Reanna would howl as the horns would do a run-through, while Peter would smile as he listened to the corps perform.

Peter had a deep love of jazz and the Concord Blue Devils A Corps performed some of his favorites including Buddy Rich. You would often see him chatting with Wayne Downey or Frank Dorritie at practice about an album he had located at some obscure record exchange or a jazz song he thought might be appropriate for an upcoming show.

Peter was introduced to the Concord Blue Devils (and drum corps) after his daughter Charlene (Loret) Schosser joined the Blue Devils and marched as a soprano in 1975. It was a memorable year.

In 1991 Peter Loret lost his battle to cancer. This scholarship was set up in his honor and to honor those young people who planned to study/teach music. It is a reflection of Peter’s dedication to and love of music and of the Concord Blue Devils and also as someone who valued the power of a good education.
