Mundy Viar first came to The Blue Devils in 1993 as an undergraduate intern for the summer, where he worked closely with David Gibbs. Mundy assumed the management of our 'C' Drum and Bugle Corps in January 1995. From 1995 through 1999 he managed both the 'C' and 'B' Drum and Bugle Corps. During this time, the "B" Corps was a DCI division II Finalist at the 1997 Championships in Orlando, as well as the only U.S. representative at the 1998 World Marching Band Festival in Kanagawa, Yokohama Japan.
Mundy works for the Mt. Diablo Unified School District, where he is the Director of Bands at Clayton Valley High School in Concord, as well as the Principal of the inaugural Mt. Diablo Summer Arts Academy. Prior to his assignment at Clayton Valley, he served at the culturally rich Riverview Middle School in Bay Point. Mundy has also been active with the Youth Education in the Arts organization of Pennsylvania (formerly New Jersey), Fiesta-val Music Festivals and the Mid-Atlantic Band Camps.
Mundy earned the MA degree from the University of Calilfornia, Berkeley, where he was a Behring Scholar in the Principal Leadership Institute. His undergraduate degree was earned at Virginia Commonwealth University. Mundy's professional associations include MENC/CMEA (Bay Section), California Band Directors Association, and the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development.
